The Anchor Hill Approach
Therapy at Anchor Hill is intentional, clinically informed, and collaborative. Each course of treatment begins with careful assessment and clearly defined goals. From there, our work unfolds responsively — guided by clinical insight while remaining attentive to your pace, readiness, and evolving needs.
My framework integrates trauma-informed care, attachment theory, developmental psychology, and family systems understanding. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support emotional regulation, cognitive clarity, and behavioral change when appropriate.
Sessions balance reflection with direct exploration. We examine both present stressors and formative experiences that continue to shape relational patterns, leadership style, coping strategies, and identity. For clients processing traumatic experiences, I incorporate Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) when assessment indicates it may be beneficial.
My role is neither passive nor prescriptive. Therapy is a collaborative process — steady, purposeful, and grounded in clinical discernment. The aim is not simply symptom relief, but deeper understanding, relational stability, and sustainable change.
Discretion and professional confidentiality are foundational to this work.
Services Offered
Adolescence is a period of rapid developmental change. Stress during this stage often reflects both present pressures and earlier attachment patterns.
Therapy balances individual space with thoughtful parental involvement. Parent guidance is incorporated when appropriate to support communication, strengthen relational stability, and promote healthy developmental progress. The goal is not only symptom reduction, but improved family functioning, clearer communication, and greater emotional resilience within the home.
My work with teens focuses on equipping adolescents with insight, emotional regulation skills, and increased self-awareness while strengthening the broader family system.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help clients resolve trauma, distressing memories, anxiety, and emotional blocks more quickly than traditional talk therapy — often in just a few sessions.
ART works by helping the brain reprocess painful memories so they no longer feel overwhelming or intrusive. While you remain fully awake and in control, guided eye movements and structured imagery techniques allow the brain to “file away” difficult experiences in a way that reduces their emotional intensity.
You do not have to relive or repeatedly describe traumatic events in detail for ART to be effective.
Many clients experience significant relief within 1–5 sessions focused on a specific issue.
Adult therapy provides space to examine longstanding patterns, current stressors, and formative experiences that continue to influence present functioning.
Many clients are capable and high functioning yet privately carry burdens that feel difficult to resolve alone. Symptoms often represent adaptive responses to earlier experiences, sustained pressure, or relational strain.
The aim is clarity, emotional regulation, relational stability, and sustainable change.
Couples often seek therapy when communication feels strained, trust has been disrupted, or recurring conflict patterns have become entrenched.
Couples therapy at Anchor Hill balances clinical insight with relational process. Sessions are guided by assessment and evidence-informed principles while remaining responsive to the evolving dynamics of the relationship. The goal is not simply symptom relief, but deeper understanding and sustainable change.

Areas of Focus & Specialization

Trauma is not defined solely by catastrophic events. It often develops through repeated experiences of fear, instability, neglect, betrayal, or emotional inconsistency — particularly within formative relationships.
I work with individuals navigating:
• Childhood emotional, physical, or sexual abuse
• Neglect or chronic invalidation
• Domestic violence or relational coercion
• Religious or spiritual trauma
• Betrayal trauma
• Complex attachment disruptions
• Chronic relational instability
Trauma can shape the nervous system, identity, and relational expectations long after the original experiences have ended. It may present as anxiety, depression, emotional reactivity, perfectionism, dissociation, relational avoidance, or difficulty trusting others.
Religious or spiritual harm can be particularly complex. For some, faith communities were a source of safety; for others, they were associated with shame, control, or betrayal. Therapy provides space to examine these experiences carefully — without dismissal or pressure — and to differentiate harmful dynamics from personal belief or faith identity.
Religious or spiritual trauma can be particularly complex. While faith traditions can offer profound meaning and stability, they can also be misapplied in ways that result in shame, fear, or relational harm. Our work differentiates between harmful dynamics and personal faith identity, allowing space for healing without dismissal of belief.
My approach to trauma work is measured and intentional. Assessment guides treatment decisions, including when to incorporate Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) as part of a comprehensive plan. Trauma work unfolds at a pace that preserves stability while moving toward integration and resolution.
At Anchor Hill, trauma is approached with steadiness, respect, and clinical clarity. The goal is not simply symptom reduction, but the restoration of internal coherence, relational safety, and self-trust.

Loss does not only follow death. It accompanies illness, identity shifts, retirement, role changes, and seasons that quietly close.
I work with individuals navigating:
• The death of a loved one
• Anticipatory grief related to chronic or terminal illness
• Caregiver strain
• Retirement and identity transition
• Job loss or significant professional change
• Empty nest adjustment
• Relational endings and major life shifts
Grief often unfolds in layers. It may bring sadness, anxiety, irritability, numbness, or a loss of direction. At times it reawakens earlier attachment wounds or unresolved experiences. For high-functioning individuals especially, grief can feel disorienting when it disrupts the stability they are accustomed to maintaining.
Therapy provides space to process loss without pressure to “move on” or resolve it quickly. Our work honors both the emotional and practical impact of transition — helping you integrate change while preserving meaning, connection, and forward movement.
At Anchor Hill, grief is met with steadiness and respect. The goal is not to erase loss, but to carry it in a way that allows life to continue with clarity and strength.

Pregnancy, motherhood, and hormonal transitions can profoundly affect emotional well-being, identity, and relationships. These experiences are often layered — bringing joy, grief, anxiety, physical change, and relational strain simultaneously.
I work with women navigating:
• Fertility challenges and pregnancy-related stress
• Pregnancy loss and reproductive grief
• Postpartum depression and anxiety
• Postpartum adjustment and identity shifts
• Hormonal fluctuations impacting mood and functioning
• Perimenopausal emotional changes
• The intersection of career demands and motherhood
Reproductive experiences are not solely biological events — they are psychological and relational transitions. They often surface unresolved grief, attachment history, and questions of identity and control. Therapy provides space to process these experiences with steadiness and clarity, without minimization or urgency.
Whether you are coping with loss, adjusting to motherhood, managing mood instability, or navigating complex hormonal shifts, our work is grounded in careful assessment and compassionate understanding. The aim is stability, self-trust, and sustainable well-being during seasons of significant change.

Neurodivergence shapes how individuals process information, regulate emotion, experience relationships, and navigate daily life. When properly understood, it offers insight — not limitation.
I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families impacted by:
• ADHD
• Autism spectrum conditions, including Asperger’s presentations
• Executive functioning challenges
• Sensory sensitivities
• Social communication differences
• Twice-exceptional or high-achieving neurodivergent individuals
Care begins with thoughtful assessment. When appropriate, I collaborate with psychologists, psychiatrists, educational evaluators, and other specialists to ensure clarity in diagnosis and comprehensive support. Integrated care is particularly important when neurodivergence intersects with mood disorders, anxiety, or trauma history.
In couples work, neurodivergence can significantly influence communication patterns, emotional expression, and conflict cycles. Therapy provides space to differentiate neurological differences from relational intent, reducing misinterpretation and increasing mutual understanding.
For families raising neurodivergent children or adolescents, therapy offers guidance in strengthening communication, advocating within educational systems, and supporting both the child and the family system as a whole. Special needs parenting carries unique demands — emotionally, logistically, and relationally. That reality deserves thoughtful support.

A Gentle, Efficient Approach to Trauma Healing
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is particularly effective for:
• Trauma and PTSD
• Childhood emotional wounds
• Anxiety and panic
• Grief and loss
• Phobias
• Relationship trauma
• Performance blocks
• Distressing memories that feel “stuck”
Many clients experience significant relief within 1–5 sessions focused on a specific issue.
-
High-responsibility roles require sustained composure, complex decision-making, and constant evaluation. The pressure associated with executive leadership often extends beyond the workplace, influencing relationships, identity, and overall well-being.
I work with C-suite and senior-level leaders navigating:
• Chronic performance pressure
• Organizational conflict
• Leadership fatigue and burnout
• Public visibility and private isolation
• Succession transitions
• Balancing professional authority with personal vulnerability
Therapy for leaders is not about diminishing strength — it is about sustaining it.
Our work is confidential, clinically informed, and intentional, yet responsive to the unique demands of leadership. We examine both present stressors and the developmental experiences that influence leadership style, conflict responses, and relational dynamics. The aim is clarity, resilience, and sustainable performance across both professional and personal domains.

Anxiety, Depression & Bipolar Disorder
Mood disorders affect emotional regulation, energy, motivation, and overall stability. They can influence relationships, work performance, sleep, and one’s sense of identity. With thoughtful, structured treatment, meaningful stability is possible.
Anxiety
Anxiety may present as racing thoughts, chronic tension, irritability, panic symptoms, or persistent overthinking. Many individuals appear high-functioning outwardly while internally feeling overwhelmed. Treatment focuses on calming the nervous system, reducing reactivity, and building sustainable coping patterns.
Depression
Depression can feel like heaviness, numbness, or loss of vitality. Symptoms may include persistent sadness, low energy, difficulty concentrating, disrupted sleep, or loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. Therapy works toward restoring engagement, structure, and renewed emotional steadiness.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder involves cyclical shifts in mood, energy, and activity levels, including periods of depression and elevated mood. Treatment emphasizes stability, routine, insight into early warning signs, and collaboration with psychiatric care when appropriate.

Healing Early Wounds & Reclaiming Stability
Adults raised in homes marked by addiction, unpredictability, or emotional absence often carry protective patterns into adulthood. These may show up as people-pleasing, difficulty with boundaries, fear of conflict, over-responsibility, or chronic self-doubt.
What once helped you survive may now feel exhausting.
Our work includes exploring attachment patterns and gently reconnecting with the inner child — the younger part of you that adapted to feel safe. Through structured, trauma-informed care, we focus on strengthening boundaries, reducing shame, and building secure, stable relationships.
You learned to adapt. Now you can learn to live with steadiness and self-trust.
Jennifer Sexton,MSW,LCSW
Founder & Psychotherapist
My work is grounded in steadiness, clinical depth, and a trauma-informed understanding of how lived experience shapes individuals and relationships.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Delaware and my Master’s degree from The Catholic University of America. I later received a competitive post-graduate fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center within Yale School of Medicine, where I served on an interdisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment across developmental stages. That experience shaped my integrative approach — one that considers the psychological, relational, and contextual layers influencing each person’s story.
My clinical background includes inpatient psychiatry, residential treatment, emergency psychiatric assessment, and school settings. Early in my career, I worked extensively with children and adolescents, developing a strong foundation in developmental trauma and family systems. Today, I work with adolescents (15+), adults, couples, and senior leaders navigating relational strain, sustained professional pressure, high-functioning anxiety, and the enduring influence of formative experiences.
Before relocating to Texas, I owned and operated a private practice on the East Coast for fifteen years. Many of my clients are accomplished and capable, yet privately carrying responsibilities and experiences that feel heavier than they appear from the outside.
My work begins with thoughtful assessment and unfolds collaboratively. I am certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and incorporate it when clinically appropriate, using it strategically to help clients move through entrenched patterns and unresolved experiences.
I am a Christian and welcome clients of all cultures, religions, and backgrounds. Faith may be integrated into therapy upon request, or our work may remain entirely secular — always guided by your values.
At Anchor Hill, therapy is intentional, confidential, and grounded in clarity — a steady place where complexity is met with discernment and meaningful change is cultivated with care.
